The 6th ASEAN5+J Workshop 2024

The 6th ASEAN5+J Workshop was held on October 4th in near Manila, Philippines. This workshop was held by industrial associations (academia for Vietnam) of the five ASEAN countries (The Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam) and JRAIA. This workshop is an information exchange meeting on energy efficiency and conservation, refrigerant conversion, and their legal and regulatory trends and industry responses, etc. for air conditioners. This year's workshop was the sixth time, following Kobe in 2018, Bangkok, Thailand in 2019, Malaysia (online) in 2021, Jakarta, Indonesia in 2022, and Hanoi, Vietnam in 2023. It was hosted by PAIA, Philippines (co-hosted with JRAIA). Approximately 50 participants gathered at the venue.
Following the opening remarks by Mr. Peter Villanueva, President of PAIA, Philippines (Philippine Appliance Industry Association, Inc.), and Mr. Tetsuji Okada, President of JRAIA, there was a video presentation by the Philippine DoE (Department of Energy), a presentation by the Philippine DTI-BPS (Department of Trade and Industry-Bureau of Philippine Standards) on the status of legal development and product certification schemes in the Philippines, and a presentation by the Philippine DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources) on domestic efforts toward the Kigali ratification. After that, Japan (JRAIA), the Philippines (PAIA), Malaysia (MACRA), Thailand (FTI-Aircon Club), Indonesia (GABEL), and Vietnam (VISRAE) reported on their efforts on refrigerant conversion and energy conservation in each country.
In the following Q&A session, all members shared their concerns regarding NGO’s proposal to prevent inefficient cooling equipment in A5 countries. During the workshop, MOU for further cooperation among 6-country’s industry associations was signed. The workshop ended successfully with the closing speech by Mr. Carlo Pineda, board member of PAIA.
This workshop marks the completion of all six countries to host the event, and the next workshop is scheduled to be held in Japan in conjunction with the Kobe Symposium in October, 2025.
After the workshop, a Fellowship Dinner was held with PAIA members enjoying friendly interaction.
